About the Journal
The Istiqlal Journal on Mosque and Islamic Studies, is published by Badan Pengelola Masjid Istiqlal Jakarta (Istiqlal Mosque Management Board) provides a scholarly platform for discourse in Mosque and Islamic Studies. It encompasses a wide array of topics, including Islamic Education, Islamic Law, Islamic Economics and Business, Qur'anic and Hadith, Islamic Philosophy, Islamic Thought and Literature, Islam and Peace, Science & Civilization in Islam, Islam in local/national contexts, and Islam and gender. Through this diverse range of subjects, the journal aims to foster comprehensive discussions and promote interdisciplinary research within the field of Islamic Studies. This journal is published twice a year in February and August.
Current Issue
This issue presents a collection of contemporary studies in Islamic scholarship that explore the dynamic relationship between religious texts, social realities, and modern global challenges. The articles in this issue examine the reinterpretation of asbāb al-nuzūl in addressing the misuse of religious arguments by terrorist actors, human-environment coexistence through the experience of tadabbur al-‘ālam, Qur’anic perspectives on interfaith marriage, the strengthening of Islamic boarding school language institutions in improving Arabic proficiency, the representation of wasatiyyah values in the architecture of Istiqlal Mosque, and contextual readings of gender equality in the Qur’an through the thought of Nasaruddin Umar. Overall, this issue highlights the importance of integrating text and context in developing Islamic studies that are relevant, moderate, and responsive to contemporary issues of humanity, environmental ethics, education, and religious diversity in the modern era.
